Session Details

While the world of higher ed may be chaotic at times, practicing the principles of mindfulness can help bring focus and clarity, making you more productive and (sigh) at peace. Shauna Shapiro, Ph. D. is a professor at Santa Clara University, author, and internationally recognized expert in mindfulness and compassion. Her TEDx Talk “The Power of Mindfulness” has been viewed by over one million people. Dr. Shapiro’s presentation will encourage innovation, creativity and cognitive flexibility, re-defining your sense of success/failure and taking risks.

More Than a Gift: Getting to Know Your Alumni via Text, and Building a Bridge Between Departments

Session Details

Now that your campus is texting students and/or alumni, what is your strategy for not killing the medium? At UNC Charlotte, we have used Mongoose Cadence to do more than ask our alumni to give back and support a variety of programs on campus. Before pressing send on our first text campaign, we assembled an Annual Giving staff to determine the long-term goals of texting and create a space to talk to and hear from our alumni. Opening the door for conversation allows our office and other departments on campus to engage alumni, gather information, steward and cultivate donors, and distribute updates to alumni in a way that is approachable and easy to access. We'll show specific examples of UNC Charlotte texts that elicited positive responses.

Can't We All Just Get Along? Campus-Wide Communication Planning

Session Details

Sharing your texting results help spread excitement across the enterprise. In this session, we will present a step-by-step action plan that helped AdventHealth University launch and maintain a connected communication plan with different teams across campus, including getting key leaders on board, training new users, and working with your Mongoose rep to help you through the process.

A Holistic Approach to Texting

Session Details

Arkansas Tech implemented the Cadence platform in mid-2018 across the divisions of Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs. Offices on-boarded included Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Tutoring, and the Registrar. Response rates to messages from these areas improved immensely (text vs. email), and early returns include increases in the app-to-admit and scholarship acceptance rates, advising appointment registrations, and scholarship acceptances. In this session, you will learn how Cadence texting can improve response rates across campus, not just in the Admissions office.

Integration: Easier Than You Think

Session Details

The term "integration" conjures terrifying images of black screens filled with indecipherable green numbers, but you don't have to be an IT whiz to integrate your programs. With no training in IT, Courtney Jorgensen was able to ease the transition to a new CRM (Hobsons to Slate) at Medaille with the help of step-by-step integration instructions and support from Mongoose. In this session, you’ll learn how you can tackle a successful integration in a way that is enjoyable, not intimidating, leading to more efficient two-way communication at your institution.

Our decision was to insert Cadence in to an already successful initiative on our campus. This presentation will walk through retention success strategies used at Carroll. After instituting texting to replace an email-only communications plan, Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine saw positive results across the enterprise. The key was consistent communication at every step in a prospective student’s journey, beginning at the high school level.
